The Conservation Development Approach

As a part of this project, the team performed spatial analyses on the study area to generate site suitability layers.

A major aspect of the analyses was to implement various approaches with varying stances towards the urban development into the Contested Countryside.

This map visualizes the study area as a result of such an analysis, done by following the Conservation Development Approach.

This approach aims to place utmost priority on protecting the Contested Countryside lands by placing a stricter limitation on where the urban growth should occur.

The areas symbolized on the map represent "Most Suitable" to "Moderately Suitable" sites for development.

This approach helps to visualize what areas are most suitable for increased population density housing, versus expanding boundaries into key agricultural and natural heritage lands
